Diocesan Events

The Cathedral Church of St Paul serves as administrative, event, and liturgical host to the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.

As home of Bishop Diocesan, The Rt. Rev. Alan M. Gates, and Bishop Suffragan, The Rt. Rev. Gayle Elizabeth Harris, the Cathedral provides office and meeting space for diocesan employees as well as providing space for the meetings of various diocesan committees, commissions, and task forces, including the Diocesan Council and Standing Committee.

In addition, our buildings are used for special diocesan events throughout the year, including Diocesan Convention; annual events such as the Fall Clergy Day and Fall Resource Day; Pastoral Episcopal Services such as ordinations, confirmations, and receptions; educational programs including Safe Church and Lay Eucharistic Visitor trainings; and dozens of other events that present themselves as needed. We host public events for social justice and advocacy for groups like Episcopal City Mission and Life Together.

The Cathedral staff members are actively engaged in diocesan activities. The Dean is among the Bishop’s senior staff members, and Cathedral clergy and staff all contribute to the mission and multi-cultural ministries of our Cathedral on behalf of the bishops and the diocese. The Cathedral Administrator, Brad Rothrock and administrative staff, offer a supportive role in the planning and implementation of the Cathedral ministries as well as Deanery Confirmations, Pastoral Episcopal Services, Holy Week, and Diocesan Convention.

As always, our Receptionist, our Facilities Manager, and his staff are always on hand and prepared to assist diocesan staff and event planners with use of our beautiful renovated church building.
